Jewelry Appraisals

All jewelry appraisals are completed by appointment, while you wait, by a G.I.A. Graduate Gemologist, adhering to the Gemological Institute of America grading standards and procedures. The value method used conforms to the methodology of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) and complies with the testing and standards of the Uniform Standards of Professional Practice (USPAP).

RGS is an independent jewelry appraiser. We do not buy or sell jewelry. You can feel comfortable that you will get an unbiased opinion without any pressure from our team.

Not all reports are created equal, nor are appraisers.  Our reports are accepted by all insurance companies, even AAA.  AAA and other insurance companies are starting to only accept appraisals done by G.I.A. certified Graduate Gemologists and prefer independent appraisers (who are not buying or selling jewelry).  There are many different labs that grade diamonds and gemstones but not all use the accredited grading systems.  The insurance companies are aware of the inconsistency of the labs and are now only accepting G.I.A. reports.

The purpose of jewelry insurance appraisals is to cover against the event of loss, damage or theft. Many jewelers that give appraisals inflate replacement values to make it look like you got a better deal.  Our reports include an accurate description of your item, with a realistic estimated replacement value so you are not paying inflated insurance premiums. Insurance companies are starting to only except appraisals done by G.I.A. certified Graduate Gemologists and prefer independent appraisers (who are not buying or selling jewelry).

The purpose of an estate appraisal is to establish a fair market value (realistic value for resale) on a specific date.

We have many years of experience working with estate and vintage jewelry.  We provide fast and accurate reports to determine a fair value.  Whether you have a shoebox full of great Aunt Mary’s jewelry or are just ready to sell your own current piece of jewelry, we can help give you a realistic value you can expect to get when you are ready to sell.

How do you know you got a good deal?

We can provide you with an unbiased, verbal or written report to ensure you received a fair value for the quality of goods you purchased.

Thinking about selling your jewelry?

If you want to receive the best value for your items, it is imperative that you know their true worth. It’s important to understand the difference between the fair market price and retail replacement value. The fair market price is the price at which the item would likely be sold at between a willing seller and a willing buyer. The retail replacement value is the amount it would cost to replace the item with one of similar quality at a retail jewelry store.

We are G.I.A. Graduate Gemologists that have been trained to identify and grade all gem quality material.  If you have a gemstone and would like to know or verify its species, we can provide you with a verbal or written report to confirm its identity.

The only way to ensure the diamond matches the report is to bring both the diamond and the report to a certified appraiser. We will confirm that the characteristics of the diamond match the diamond report. An appraisal also reveals the retail value of the diamond and details any additional information that is not on the grading report.

All of our appraisals are performed while you wait, helping to save you time and give you piece-of-mind that your jewelry will never leave your sight or our office.  Please call to schedule an appointment.
